Get Your Thrills with E’LAST
It’s been almost a year since we last heard from E’LAST, but the boy group are finally back with their latest single “Thrill.” I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again: one of the best things about E’LAST is their ability to tackle any genre and twist it into their own, and “Thrill” is no different. It definitely has more of a hip-hop sound before the first verse, which brings in the E’LAST sound we’ve all come to know and love. There’s a blip of that hip-hop sound again in Wonjun’s section of the first verse, but then we get pure E’LAST again in an ‘80s-adjacent style. It’s a really interesting sound, especially coming from E’LAST who tend to play with a more dramatic sound, and I wouldn’t be mad if we heard more of this from them in the future.
The music video for “Thrill” starts out with a shot of Wonjun standing among flowers while E’LAST’s last single “Creature” plays. It then cuts right into “Thrill,” where the seven members (it would be eight, but Seungyeop is currently enlisted!) are standing in the middle of a stage with red lights shining down on them. It’s honestly a little pro wrestling-like, but I don’t see any ropes around the stage for them to launch off of. If the stage is giving pro wrestling, the outfits are giving slight race car driver vibes, which honestly had me worried when I first saw the concept photos. I was really hoping E’LAST weren’t going to fall into the “cars go vroom” release hole, and thankfully they didn’t! Everything about “Thrill,” from the track to the music video to the outfits, is E’LAST.
That said, whenever the chorus starts, I always imagine an ‘80s dance montage a la Footloose or Flashdance, and I can’t help but feel like that was a missed opportunity. Check out the music video for yourself though, and let us know what you think!
