DRIPPIN Embraces the SEVEN SINS

DRIPPIN have returned with their latest single album, SEVEN SINS, featuring three brand new tracks: title track “SEVEN SINS” and B-sides “STEREO” and “BAD BLOOD.” As Alex is currently on hiatus, the single album features the remaining six members. But don’t worry! Yunseong, Hyeop, Changuk, Dongyun, Minseo, and Junho still deliver a flawless new single album.

Title track “SEVEN SINS” is a dark and, dare I say it, slightly sensual track. I guess that’s to be expected though when you’re listening to a song about the seven sins: greed, envy, wrath, pride, sloth, gluttony, and lust. As I’ve said in previous articles about DRIPPIN, one of my favorite things about them is that no two tracks sound the same, whether they’re on the same or different albums, and SEVEN SINS is no exception. There’s really no comparison between “SEVEN SINS” and DRIPPIN’s previous title tracks; it stands on its own and offers something new to their discography, almost like an EDM-R&B combo that I’d love to hear more of in the future.

The music video for “SEVEN SINS” is the perfect visualization of the track, with scenes of the members embracing the different sins interspersed with gorgeous choreography. One of my favorite dance sequences isn’t even necessarily because of the choreography but rather the interesting visual effect placed over it in the music video. In the second pre-chorus, as DRIPPIN dances in a concrete tunnel, there’s this slightly jarring slow-motion effect that almost feels like the slow drop into the sins they’re singing about. It’s a really cool shot, and the effect continues to be used whenever DRIPPIN is seen in the tunnel.

B-side “STEREO” continues with the EDM vibes started with the title track, but also introduces this really deep, chest-pounding beat in the background. The end of the track is also cool; the beat drops for a bridge and DRIPPIN embraces a kind of ballad-like quality to their vocals before the beat comes back. The final track “BAD BLOOD” reminds me of arena metal from the ‘80s, but blended with a pop sound. Both tracks will definitely be making their way onto my playlist the next time I take a road trip.

While we patiently await the return of Alex, make sure to check out the rest of SEVEN SINS on streaming platforms and watch the music video a few times.
