Dreamcatcher Says “BONVOYAGE” to the Apocalypse Series
Dreamcatcher’s presence in the K-Pop industry has always been a delight. At the time of their debut, they were one of (if not the first) girl groups that took on horror concepts regularly. Since that time, the girls have maintained a consistent storyline full of darker concepts, but still managed to make every comeback creatively different. “BONVOYAGE” goes in a different direction, with a lighter rock sound and a sweeter message, though it is overall bittersweet.
“BONVOYAGE” sounds like something straight out of an anime OST, which makes it instantly addicting for a bigger audience. The song shifts in tone from each verse to the chorus, with a softer, vocal-focused melody in each verse. The song is more vocal-focused overall, with even Dami having more vocal than rap lines. The vocal prowess of the group really shines through in this single, with Siyeon’s unbelievable range eliciting goosebumps more than once throughout the track. This song definitely makes it apparent that the girl group is one of the strongest vocal talents in the industry, as they are able to do both soft and intense ranges throughout the track. While it’s not my personal favorite heavy metal influenced type of song, it’s still incredibly powerful in conveying the girls’ talents and fits with their overall motif.
As is expected of the Apocalypse series, the music video fits the concept of an abandoned utopia, with vacant industrial buildings and crumbling landscapes. This is contrasted with solo shots of the girls in fields of blooming flowers and greenery, almost as if to represent the sweet and bitter mix of lyrics in the track. The styling is also particularly unique as well. As usual, it is an overall captivating piece of media.
