Let Me Tell You ‘Bout LE SSERAFIM
May is a special month for the girls of LE SSERAFIM and their official fandom, FEARNOT. The group released its first full-length album on May 1 before celebrating their one-year anniversary the next day. Come along with me as I break down some of the B-sides that led LE SSERAFIM to their “villain era,” and be sure to check out UNFORGIVEN, available for streaming on all platforms.
“The Great Mermaid”
LE SSERAFIM debuted on May 2, 2022, with their first mini album, FEARLESS. Track four is a retold story of a Disney classic from the eyes of LE SSERAFIM. In The Little Mermaid, Ariel gives up her life under the sea when she falls in love with a charming human prince. The members of LE SSERAFIM make it clear they would not choose the same fate in “The Great Mermaid.” The quintet forgoes a typical love story by instead focusing on their own happiness and freedom. The chorus contains bold lyrics with hyper-pop vocals to create an edgy track. It’s one of their more underrated B-sides overall, but definitely worthy of the same hype as fan favorites, such as “Sour Grapes.”
“Good Parts (when the quality is bad but I am)”
Five months after their debut, the group made their first comeback with a second mini album, ANTIFRAGILE. Like the first, the second EP contains five tracks. ANTIFRAGILE ends on a high note as LE SSERAFIM makes a commitment to love themselves for better or worse. In an era heavily focused on sharing your life online, it becomes second nature to constantly compare yourself to others. Even our favorite K-pop idols fall into the same trap of endless scrolling and “zoom in, out.” Our fearless five show their vulnerable side in “Good Parts” with lyrics about wanting to love all their weaknesses and flaws. They offer listeners an important reminder “Even if it doesn’t look decent, love my bad parts [...] Making mistakes is okay, find the good parts.”
“No-Return (Into the unknown)”
This week’s final B-side is from LE SSERAFIM’s newly released album, UNFORGIVEN. It comes in right after the title track, which is the perfect placement to maintain the upbeat momentum. “No-Return” is a classic pop anthem that’s sure to be a hit at live shows. In fact, the group teased the new album at their first fan meeting on March 18 with a full performance of “No-Return.” According to Weverse Magazine, the cheerful track is meant to “emphasize the bond between listeners through the excitement of adventure.” Check out a refreshing performance of “No-Return” from M COUNTDOWN, linked below, and embark on a new journey with the talented girls of LE SSERAFIM.
