P1Harmony Pumps up the Volume with “JUMP”
It’s no secret that P1Harmony has taken the K-Pop world by storm since the members' debut in 2020. Just before embarking on their latest overseas tour in Canada and Latin America, the boys have returned with new mini-album HARMONY : ALL IN, featuring the title track “JUMP.”
“JUMP” is a high-energy EDM-pop track with quite a bit of rap flair, as expected of the sextet. The chorus melody is particularly addicting and will get stuck in your head from the first listen. It’s hard to think of descriptions of this song outside of pure K-Pop: a conglomeration of different musical genres into one cohesive melody. At the end of the day, this track is a classic K-Pop track designed to get stuck in your head and pump up the energy. Even if it’s not something groundbreaking, there’s still something great about a simple hype track.
The music video is fairly simple, with a club scene as the main focus of the composition of the set. Choreography shots take place on a huge dance floor surrounded by enthusiastic dancers, and in the solo shots, we see the boys on a giant DJ mixing table or surrounded by huge speakers. It is relatively simple, but it gets the point of the track across and has some pretty cool shots of the boys interspersed just having fun.
HARMONY : ALL IN features six new tracks, kicking off with the title “JUMP.” The first B-side, “Love Me For Me,” is a lighter pop track with a more optimistic and playful demeanor. It’s a catchy, upbeat track that makes you feel good. Next track “New Classic” goes more of a hip-hop route in the melody with a hook line that makes the chorus get stuck in your head immediately. “More Than Words” returns to the lighter feel with an EDM-influenced beat accompanied by sweet vocals at center stage. There is a short rap breakdown about two-thirds of the way through the song, which isn’t much of a surprise. As we get closer to the end of the EP, “Heartbeat Drum” greets us with another club banger, not unlike the title track. The rap verses in this track are particularly impactful. Finally, we have “I Am You,” an R&B slower tempo track that sets a nice pace to end the album.
Overall, HARMONY : ALL IN has a good mix of various genres while remaining cohesive, though I would like to hear more R&B in this album personally. That’s one genre I find that the group particularly excels at, so I’m a bit disappointed we only got one track along those lines. Still, it’s a solid release from the group, and I’m excited to see how their performances do while on tour.
