BTS’ Butter and Permission to Dance Era

Within the K-Pop industry, it's well-known and often even debated that BTS set many records and paved many ways for the groups after them. My favorite example of BTS achieving new goals is their “Permission to Dance” era. The song was released on July 23, 2021, just a month after their hit single “Butter.” After the release, the group charted No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for both songs seven weeks in a row. The song brought them multiple new experiences, from a four-day sold-out residency to yet another GRAMMY nomination. If you want to know why it's so significant, this can help!

The group of seven got their first GRAMMY nomination for their 2020 hit song “Dynamite” which not only brought them the nomination, but also millions of new fans. But that wasn't the end for them. Through experiencing the pandemic, the boys mentioned they wanted to continue shining light into the lives of ARMYs, so they released “Butter.” A month later, the boys released “Permission to Dance” which explained the idea of having fun together without needing permission or opinions from others. These two songs not only brought them the ability to chart for weeks on end but also brought them nominations from various Western music award shows, the biggest being the Recording Academy

After the high charting records the boys hit, they announced their four-day residency at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California, and to no surprise they sold out all four nights in minutes. While they were on a roll of breaking records, they became the first K-Pop group to sell out all nights at the stadium. After waiting anxiously for almost two years, ARMYs got a chance to see the boys live and it was something out of a movie. After the four nights in Los Angeles, the group announced four more. This time at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada and–no shocker here, they also sold out in minutes. Those four nights were nothing but magical and unfortunately, that was the last time the boys performed in the States as a team and the end of the PTD and Butter era.

The almost 10-month era brought them plenty of new experiences from performing live at the GRAMMYs in Vegas to expanding their already large fandom into something many artists dream of having. The seven boys have experienced things that 10 years ago they only wished to have. Almost two years later, the boys are still making and breaking records as a group and with their solo projects. If you're in a state of missing the seven boys all together, make sure to stream “Permission to Dance” to reminisce on a great era!
