EVERGLOW Came to "SLAY" in Latest Comeback

EVERGLOW has finally made their long-awaited comeback 20 months after their last EP release, Return of The Girl. Titled ALL MY GIRLS, this mini-album consists of three songs—title track "SLAY," and B-sides "Oh Ma Ma God" and "Make Me Feel."

Title track "SLAY" screams EVERGLOW. The song's “na na na na” driven melody holds the same catchy feel that drives all of EVERGLOWS other tracks, such as "Adios" and "LA DI DA." It’s a melody that imprints itself into your mind, having you singing along almost instantly. The lyrics are somewhat simple and lackluster, despite being a female empowerment track. But the song overcomes this through the members' enchanting vocals and snappy rap verse, especially Mia's opening verse and the ear-pleasing drawn out vocals on the words “now” and “alright.” Although, it's the combination of the song’s simplicity and the members's vocals that make this a great comeback pop track for me.

Like its title, the girls slay in the song's music video. Each of the members exhibit strong, female attitude and beautiful, powerful demeanour, showing them ready to take on whatever is that is coming to them.

The second track, "Oh Ma Ma God," came unexpectedly to me. It's not a sound that I would associate with EVERGLOW; it carries a softer, more airy tune that you tend to hear with K-Pop girl groups who take on a cute image, as opposed to EVERGLOW's fierce one. Although, this might just be me needing to hear more of EVERGLOW's other B-side tracks. Despite this, "Oh Ma Ma God" is an enjoyable track and shows EVERGLOW in a new direction that really suits their vocals. This continues into the third and final track, "Make Me Feel," that also carries a cute and light vibe with notions of romance in the song's lyrics. "Make Me Feel" has the recipe of an indie-pop or electro-pop track from a Western country, particularly the UK; its sound fits the kind of music that gets played on BBC Radio 1.

ALL MY GIRLS is truly a great comeback EP for EVERGLOW that showcases familiar and new styles for the girls. It's been a long wait, but hopefully now that they are back, they won't leave us waiting too long for their next release.
