Throwback Thursday: August Debuts Edition

We are now in the month of August. That means it's time for some August debuts. There are many groups on this list that you all may know that had their big breaks during this month. We got to see these groups blossom from their debut days, into such strong artists that we know and love to this day. So today let’s take it back to some iconic debuts in August.

Girls’ Generation - “다시 만난 세계 (Into The New World)”

On August 5, 2007, SM Entertainment debuted one of K-Pop's most well-known girl groups. Girls’ Generation consisted of nine members at the time of debut. The members were Taeyeon, Sunny, Tiffany, Yuri, Hyoyeon, Sooyoung, Seohyun, Jessica, and Yoona. Their debut track “다시 만난 세계 (Into The New World)” is one of the most talked about title tracks ever. This iconic song will forever remain in our minds as a top-tier debut track.

WINNER - “empty” & “COLOR RING” 

WINNER is a boy group under YG Entertainment that has wowed us all since their debut. The group consisted of five members at the time of their debut. They were members JINU, HOONY, MINO, YOON, and TAEHYUN. The group was formed in 2013 from an Mnet survival show called WIN: Who Is Next. They had two lead singles on their first album which was pre-released. The two songs are titled “empty” and “COLOR RING.” They made their official debut on August 17, 2014, on the music show SBS Inkigayo with their song “empty,” and as a group of four, they have been releasing absolute bangers ever since then.

BLACKPINK - “WHISTLE” & “BOOMBAYAH” 

“BLACKPINK in your area.” BLACKPINK is a YG Entertainment girl group whose debut was highly anticipated. Following their well-known seniors 2NE1, BLACKPINK was the first girl group to come from YG Entertainment in seven years. The four members Jennie, Rosé, Jisoo, and Lisa came onto the scene with their two hard-hitting title tracks “WHISTLE” and “BOOMBAYAH.” To this day, these two songs are sung and danced to by everyone. From the moment of their debut, we all had a feeling of how big BLACKPINK was going to be. This definitely went down in history as an iconic debut that we all love.

WANNA ONE - “Energetic”

“I’m feelin’ so energetic.” WANNA ONE was an 11-member boy group formed from the second season of Produce 101. The members were Sungwoon, Seongwoo, Kang Daniel, Jihoon, Jisung, Minhyun, Daehwi, Kuanlin, Jinyoung, Jaehwan, and Woojin. They debuted with their track “Energetic” on August 7, 2017. This group was only meant to be together for about a year and disbanded on December 31, 2018. After disbanding, the members all went their separate ways and joined other agencies to debut in different groups and to debut as soloists. This song is so good and is known by all K-Pop listeners, and is a track that we all stream to this day.
