It’s Giving Title Track Energy (Girl Group Edition)
In part one of “It’s Giving Title Track Energy,” I talked about boy groups and their amazing B-sides. Now, it’s time to give some love to the girl groups and talk about some B-sides that would have been fantastic title tracks.
“In My Dreams” - Red Velvet
This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Every time I hear this song, I feel like I’m flying. This gorgeous masterpiece is what I imagine fairies dance to. On March 21, 2022, SM Entertainment's iconic girl group Red Velvet dropped their EP, The ReVe Festival 2022 - Feel My Rhythm. This album houses some of the most breathtaking songs we have ever heard. One of them is “In My Dreams.” This is the final song on the EP, and it has all of the workings of a title track. You can hear strong vocals and a captivating beat while listening to the song. The album's concept is eye-catching, and they utilize it during the promotion of this song. The members' vocals are displayed throughout this song, and the girls' immense talent can be heard in every harmony. The girls did such a fantastic job, and this would have been a great title track.
“Pretty Savage” - BLACKPINK
On October 2, 2020, BLACKPINK dropped their first full-length album, THE ALBUM. This jam-packed album is stacked with so many different bangers, and one of them is the B-side, “Pretty Savage.” Honestly, before hearing the title track, I thought this was the title track. This song gives off such girl-boss energy. You listen to this song, and you will instantly feel empowered. “Pretty Savage” has a strong bass that you can feel in your chest. There is also a very addictive chorus, and the choreography is so much fun. Watching the performance of this song at Coachella will always hype you up. It’s full of energy, and you will watch it repeatedly. While the title track for this album is amazing, this would have been a great one to add to their list of iconic title tracks.
“GRL GVNG” - XG
On September 22, 2023, XG dropped their EP NEW DNA. This EP is so much fun to listen to and each song is so addictive. One song in particular stood out to me and many others: “GRL GVNG” is the third song on the EP. It is a bass-induced heavy hitter with striking raps and smooth vocals. The members truly put their all into this track. Something that stood out in this song is the choreography. There are parts of the dance where the members are seen incorporating sign language into the dance. The chairs are used in incredible ways as well. Watching them jump off the chairs or land on the chair in sync is so much fun. “GRL GVNG” is so good and fun to listen to.
