Throwback Thursday: December Debuts Part 2

Every month, we take it back and talk about the beginnings of our favorite artists. In part one, we talked about groups who took the stage and wowed us with their notable debuts. Since there are so many groups and soloists in the world of K-Pop and K-R&B/Hip-Hop, it was only fitting to make a part two. So, let’s take it back and talk about their iconic debuts.

Villain - “Rainy Night”

On December 8, 2016, former PLT member Villain dropped his debut single, “Rainy Night.” This dreamy ballad is like a daydream. It’s always interesting to see a ballad as a debut track, even moreso when it’s from a rapper. Villain has a phenomenal voice that can be heard throughout this track. There is a striking beat that isn’t hard-hitting but makes you sway along. The way he harmonizes with himself in the song is impressive and showcases his talent. This type of R&B can be heard in Villain’s music as time progresses, becoming his signature sound. Seeing that he is still sticking to his roots and trying new things even as time moves is always so touching. It’s a great song that everyone should listen to.

Rolling Quartz - “Blaze”

On December 30, 2020, the K-Rock girl group Rolling Quartz dropped their debut track, “Blaze.” This hard-hitting track will have you head banging and wanting to mosh. You usually don’t see female rock bands. It’s always awesome to see new groups taking over concepts you won’t normally see them in, and when Rolling Quartz debuted, they came in with a bang. They are phenomenal singers with a signature strong and hard rock voice, and they are outstanding players. Each member plays an instrument, and there is their lead singer. These girls are talented, and that is shown in their debut track, “Blaze.” If you love bands like Fall Out Boy or My Chemical Romance, then they are the band for you.

Xdinary Heroes - “Happy Death Day”

“Happy Death Day. Happy, happy, worst day.” On December 6, 2021, up-and-coming JYP Entertainment rock boy band Xdinary Heroes debuted with their track “Happy Death Day.” This upbeat dance track is what you think when you hear rock. The members are all talented in many fields. They are excellent singers, and they know how to play an instrument. This track features those iconic rock sounds. The drums are strong, and you can hear the guitar strums. The keyboard can also be heard throughout the song, adding a particular touch. Just from this song alone, many became big fans of Xdinary Heroes, myself included. Ever since their debut, they have been on a steady incline, and they will continue.
