HYBE’s New Girl Group ILLIT’s Debut is “Magnetic”
We’ve got a new girl group from the HYBE labels on the books! ILLIT, the five-member group consisting of Yunah, Minju, Moka, Wonhee, and Iroha, is the final result of the 2023 JTBC survival show R U Next?, which aired between June and September of last year. The quintet makes their debut with first EP Super Real Me and title track “Magnetic.”
“Magnetic” is a classic upbeat pop track that gives off a playful, youthful vibe, which is fitting given the ages of the members. The song has a driving and infectious beat that complements the vocal prowess of the members. While the sound is a pretty tame and classic pop track, the final bridge before the last chorus adds a bit of flair where we have two melodic lines performing parallel to each other. While the melody does become quite infectious, the lyrics are about as generic as you’d expect.
The vibe of the music video matches the song, showcasing the girls in a very youthful and girly light. In a way it’s kind of reminiscent of NewJeans’s “Ditto” concept, minus the retro aspects. All the girls sport natural dark hair and a nude focused makeup look. The coloring in the video is subdued for the most part to match this, with pastel pinks and blues, plus white, used most often in their outfits. If you’re a fan of the refreshing concepts, then this will be your jam.
