Title Track: “Give Me That” and “Give Me That (Korean Version)”
If you aren’t up trying to bust a move with this track, you aren’t listening to it right. This ‘90s-inspired track incorporates hip-hop, pop, and a little retro. While listening to the song I kept getting the thought that this reminds me of Michael Jackson. Then I heard ad-libs and song references, and it all clicked. The new style is really exciting to see. Moving away from the dark concepts for a second, we are given a song that’s going to be played all summer. Something interesting about this song is that it’s in both Mandarin and Korean, which is so nice to see. There’s no way I can talk about this song and not bring up the vocals and the raps. Members Hendery and Yangyang gave such addictive raps that are hard-hitting and groovy. The vocalists Ten, Xiaojun, and Kun are dazzling singers. The high notes and ad-libs are powerful. Xiaojun's high note is impressive (as usual) and adds to the high-powered title track.
Now the choreography looks like so much fun. It is energetic and showcases the intricate dancing skills the members possess. The dance is memorable and compelling. I can tell they had fun filming this. The video is cool, and watching the members dance on vinyl is so unique. This is a favorite of mine, for sure.
“She A Wolf”
I don’t think I’ve ever added a song to my favorites so fast. “She A Wolf” is the second song on the EP. It incorporates many genres like R&B, hip-hop, and EDM. This track is Korean and has a stage that shows off the performance skills that WayV has. While the song is hard-hitting, the vocals are entrancing and smooth, up until we get to the chorus. The deep and raspy voices create an intense feeling. The bridge is amazing. It starts with Ten and gives us stable vocals and striking dance moves. Then Kun and Xiaojun share a majestic high note that harmonizes with one another. It’s a great song and will be a favorite of many listeners.
“Might As Well”
The country concept of this song is something we don’t normally hear in K-pop, and it fits this track. “Tell me how you love me, tell me that it’s real. If we put in work, then we can make it real,” has been stuck in my head all day. The song is addictive. The strums of the guitar add to that country theme, and the hip-hop add-on gives it that WayV touch. It’s a fun track that is going to excite so many listeners. I can see this being a favorite among many.
“New Ride”
“I’ma pick you up in my new ride, and we riding. Yea, yea, yea, yea, yeah.” This was another track I instantly added to my favorites. This song is so WayV. It’s laid-back, chill, and groovy and is the perfect track to play with your windows down. The video captures the right aura of this song. This pre-release gave us a look into what this EP was going to be like. This summer song is perfect for those long rides. It’s an entertaining sing-along and cheerful.
“Don’t Get Mad”
What a great ending song. “Don’t Get Mad” is a track you play while lying back, where you sway your head to the guitar strums and sing along to the lyrics. This bouncy track showcases the members' vocal skills and has a chorus you’re bound to get hooked on. “Other guys in, other guys in, other guys in the world, yeah. So don’t get mad.” There is one part I must point out, and it's the bridge. There is a point when the members harmonize, and it is the most satisfying note to listen to. It’s a good song and, yes, is another favorite of mine.
WayV has done it once again and has dropped an unforgettable, fun EP. So, check out Give Me That - The 5th Mini Album - EP for songs that are summer-coded.
