FIESTAR Reunites After Six Years with Remake of “You’re Pitiful”

2024 has seen its fair share of girl group reunions, and FIESTAR is the latest. On August 31, Cao Lu, Jei, Linzy, Hyemi (who currently promotes as soloist Yel), and Yezi released a remake of their 2015 title track “You’re Pitiful.” The new arrangement came with its own music video, and Cao Lu spearheaded the reunion. “You’re pitiful - 2024 ver.” comes six years after the group’s disbandment and on the twelfth anniversary of their debut.

A Brief History of FIESTAR

FIESTAR originally debuted as a six member group on August 31, 2012. The group was managed under LOEN Entertainment, which now exists as Kakao Entertainment. Cao Lu, Jei, Linzy, Hyemi, Yezi, and Cheska released their debut single album VISTA and the title track of the same name. For a debut song, it announces the grand debut of a new group with the jovial-sounding horns and its encouraging message. The music video displays this in the form of a spectacular talent show.

The group would continue to release singles and single albums in 2012 and 2013. FIESTAR released their first single as a five member group in July 2014, five months after Cheska left. In 2015, they released their first EP Black Label, which featured “You’re Pitiful” as the title track. In 2016, their second EP A Delicate Sense and single “Apple Pie” came out as their final releases before disbandment on May 15, 2018.

Post disbandment, the members continued with solo activities. On May 25, 2018, Hyemi made her solo debut as Yel with her single “Lucid Dream,” Cao Lu, Jei, and Linzy continued to promote as actresses, and Yezi continued as a soloist, having debuted in 2016 with the single album Foresight Dream.

“You’re Pitiful”

On March 4, 2015, FIESTAR released their music video for “You’re Pitiful,” which showed a confident and mature concept compared to their cute debut. The original music video showcased prop choreography with chairs, while the 2024 video shows a revised choreography. The group wanted to remake their favorite title track, and the majority liked “You’re Pitiful” the best.

FIESTAR also released the 2024 version in Chinese, which did not exist previously. Other than the primary language difference, it changes Yezi’s raps into English. The Chinese single comes in three versions: the group release, a rendition sung solely by Cao Lu, and its instrumental.

Cao Lu funded the comeback after successfully acquiring the song’s rights earlier this year. She documented the group’s reunion on her YouTube channel. Jei’s channel uploaded the music video’s behind the scenes, and Yezi’s channel uploaded the remake’s recording process. FIESTAR does not currently promote under any agency.
