2025 includes many milestones for MONSTA X. Following Joohoney, Kihyun, and Hyungwon’s discharges from the military this year, MONSTA X has been constantly packing music and concerts for their fans, MONBEBE. Not only did they release a digital album for the tenth anniversary, complete an Asia tour, and finish six-member promotions for their latest album, but they also put out a new English single. On October 14, MONSTA X released the electro pop single “baby blue.” Excluding collaborations, “baby blue” marks the group’s first U.S.-focused release since 2021.
“baby blue” shows yearning at its finest. With MONSTA X’s emotional singing, its message is clear: romantic feelings stick around, for better or for worse. According to Kakao Entertainment, “baby blue” contains “reflections and lingering emotions after a breakup.” The speaker contemplates their tumultuous relationship and tries to reason with their conflicting emotions.
The music video captures this state by showing the members in secluded, dark spaces with dim lighting. This desolate feeling prioritizes the members’ facial expressions over choreography. It produces a vulnerable image of the group, different from their usual aura of confidence.
After MONSTA X saw fans in Asia earlier this year, U.S. fans will soon get their chance to see the group on stage as well. MONSTA X is set to perform in front of American crowds during iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball 2025 in December. They will visit New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Miami.“baby blue” can be found exclusively on music streaming platforms.
