Minho of SHINee Brings Summer Heat in Winter with Single “TEMPO”

We are in the thick of the holiday season, and at least up here on the U.S. east coast in the throes of the freezing cold temperatures of the darkest days of winter. Amidst the literal zero degree wind chills, it’s hard not to miss the warmth of summer. This is also the season of Christmas singles, so it’s very rare to get a comeback that’s not holiday-themed, if we get a comeback at all during this quieter season. SHINee’s Minho comes in with new single “TEMPO” to heat up the endless night.

I’ve always felt that Minho was a bit of an underrated artist on his own, as a lot of his releases showcase a great vocal talent and creative ability. “TEMPO” feels like the kind of track we’d get in the middle of the summer comeback madness, as it has a primarily Latin beat with a hip-hop vibe and driving melody. His vocal timbre is so nice, with a lower register that elicits a passionate feeling. While the track is under three minutes, it’s still a pleasant listening experience that blends English and Korean lyrics seamlessly. 

The video is a classic SM Entertainment creative work, with an interwoven storyline to follow with intermittent choreography shots that showcase Minho’s dancing ability. The videography is sharp and eye-catching with a myriad of insane visual effects that the agency has become known for with their artists. The futuristic theme is emphasized by a noticeable lack of color, giving off a somewhat elegant and poised feel. This also makes Minho’s highlighter green pants stick out even further in the first choreography scene.
