RESCENE’s Concepts Create Blooming Popularity
Rookie group RESCENE have gained a noticeable following in their first year. The five member group has released one single album and two EPs since their debut in March 2024. Being the first K-Pop group to perform at the Tokyo Tower and landing mentions from Grammy.com is no simple feat for a group less than one year old. With their popularity rising, Woni, Liv, Minami, May, and Zena have captured the attention of K-Pop fans internationally. With the group’s newest EP, it seems like 2025 will serve as RESCENE’s continued glow up.
RESCENE’s Concept
RESCENE’s name combines “scene” and “scent,” which connects to their concept based on a phenomenon that says “scents can evoke memories of the past.” As such, each release by RESCENE follows a specific scent as its theme. Their debut single album Re:Scene, released on March 26, 2024, centers on the scent of flowers with its two tracks. Pre-release “YoYo,” a dreamy house song, likens a hypnotising love to the motion of a yo-yo. The dance title track “UhUh” uses brass to catch listeners’ attention. Its lyrics speak of an alluring sweet scent that remains even after a flower dies.
A Comeback by the Ocean in SCENEDROME
RESCENE made their first comeback in August with the season-appropriate SCENEDROME EP, as dual title tracks “LOVE ATTACK” and “Pinball” brought summer fun to listeners. RESCENE depicts two different scenarios of love in the title tracks: “LOVE ATTACK” embraces romantic feelings, while “Pinball” shows someone trying to suppress their unexpected feelings. The dichotomy of an optimistic pop song accepting love with open arms with a slower R&B song trying to process emotions make SCENEDROME an entertaining listen. Even Grammy.com fell for “LOVE ATTACK,” with writer Tássia Assis noting that the group have “been nailing track after track with gorgeous vocal colors and magical, airy melodies.”
Feeling Refreshed With Glow Up
After exploring fragrances of flowers and the ocean, RESCENE focuses on the scent of soap with their latest EP. Released on February 5, Glow Up uses soap as a clean and refreshing scent that symbolizes change. Its title track of the same name showcases this concept with the idea of both growing up while also shining bright. The dance instrumental is entrancing, just like what RESCENE hopes to achieve with long-lasting memories.
RESCENE’s dreamy sound mixes R&B and dance pop similar to Red Velvet. While the former does not advertise a dual sound concept like the latter, many of their songs come out smooth and/or cute. This consistent mystical feeling gives RESCENE a distinct identity early in their career.
