K-Pop Music Videos Turning 10 in March
Take a trip down memory lane with these releases from March 2015.
Although it's not their strongest music video, “Ice Cream Cake” by Red Velvet will always be iconic. The video is Yeri's debut with the group, seven months after Red Velvet’s debut with “Happiness. “Ice Cream Cake” was filmed in Palmdale, California at the Four Aces Movie Ranch where B1A4 filmed their “Solo Day.”
“Pray” by FTISLAND is a black and white video of the members trying to break free of their cages. The video alternates between solo shots of the members and shots of the band inside a giant glass box. As they're being spectated through the glass, they use their music to retaliate and break free.
In terms of style, “Call Me Baby” was revolutionary for EXO and SM Entertainment. The video steers away from the company's traditional “SM Box” and takes on a one shot style with transitions and wider, emptier, sets. While Red Velvet and all of the groups that debuted after them never had videos that used the SM Box, 2015 is when many of SM’s other groups broke out of the traditional style. “Call Me Baby” went on to become one of the most watched music videos of 2015 and was the group's second music video to surpass 200 million views.
