IU is back! Fresh off the promotions of her latest drama When Life Gives You Tangerines, IU has returned with the third installment of her A flower bookmark (Kkot Galpi 3) album series. Her last being released in 2017, this third installment brings a refreshing and fun take on remakes of older Korean songs. Given the current climate of the world lately with so many negative things happening, this album is a breath of fresh air that hits the soul.

Tracklist:

  1. “Red Sneakers”

  2. “Never Ending Story”

  3. “October 4th”

  4. “Last Scene (Feat. Wonstein)”

  5. “A Beautiful Person (Feat. Balming Tiger)”

  6. “Square’s dream”

“Never Ending Story”

One thing is for sure is that IU will never fail to deliver a moving ballad. For this remake she does her rendition of 1980’s band BooHwal’s “Never Ending Story.” The song recalls a memory of being in love and what it felt like to be in love during more youthful times. While it may seem sad, “Never Ending Story” recalls a beautiful memory of love that can be looked upon fondly. It’s something warm and comforting, despite the longing feeling. It’s something that many, whether young or old, can relate to.

The music video follows IU who pines after a young, handsome man who is the owner of a book and DVD store. Day after day, she finds herself in the shop, just wanting to be in his presence and catch a glimpse of him. Secretly, it is implied that he pines after her as well, which eventually leads to IU plucking up the courage to express her feelings. Thus, a blooming love story begins. However, misfortune strikes not long after and what could have been a cute love story is abruptly ended. Although the timing wasn’t right, and longing then comes after, it’s still a beautiful memory to look upon and those feelings can be cherished because being in love in itself, is a beautiful thing.

For those who are newer to the Korean music scene, having remake albums and artists like IU who cover older songs, gives an opportunity to learn what music was popular from a different era. This opens the opportunity for fans alike to look into the original songs and see where the inspiration comes from. Kkot Galpi 3, has other bright songs off the album that just makes you smile and feel warm and fuzzy on the inside. IU does a great job of just bringing a ray of sunlight to this album and you will definitely find yourself having this album on repeat and getting chills listening to it.
