After taking a hiatus since 2023, MOMOLAND has celebrated their return with new remixes of old favorites. Released on June 30, FESTIVALAND takes MOMOLAND’s “Bboom Bboom,” “BAAM,” “Wonderful Love,” and “Yummy Yummy Love” and reimagines them. Debuting under MLD Entertainment on November 10, 2016, and leaving the company on January 27, 2023, MOMOLAND is now back as a group under new management. Hyebin, Jane, Nayun, JooE, Ahin, and Nancy reportedly signed contracts with Inyeon Entertainment in April for future group activities.
TRACKLIST:
“Bboom Bboom (DJ Sparrow Remix) - EDM Version”
“BAAM (Chan Lee Remix) - EDM Version”
“Wonderful Love (LoveCity Remix) - Rock Version”
“Yummy Yummy Love (TAEB, clut Remix) - Funk & Color Bass Version”
FESTIVALAND includes some of MOMOLAND’s most famous songs. Initially released on January 3, 2018, MOMOLAND’s mega hit “Bboom Bboom” gets a EDM remix by DJ Sparrow. Since the original song already fell under the EDM umbrella as electroswing, this remix may sound the most puzzling. This version adds whistle sounds to punctuate its beats.
“BAAM,” the follow-up to “Bboom Bboom,” also received an EDM remix. It serves as the title track for this single album and was arranged by Chan Lee (EZ) of the K-Hip-Hop duo EZUZ. Though this version sounds tamer than the energetic original, the re-arrangement splices up vocal bits and verses for a distinct remix. The new music video for this song features animated characters returning to MOMOLAND, a theme park in this case.
The next remix features “Wonderful Love,” the first song from MOMOLAND to go viral on the Internet. Considering its EDM remix went viral in 2017, “Wonderful Love” getting a new rendition seems even more fitting. The original went from a sweet, bubblegum pop sound to a strong, dance-heavy jam, and now a hopeful rock song from LoveCity’s arrangement.
At the time of publication, the funk and color bass rendition of “Yummy Yummy Love” was unavailable for streaming. According to TAEB, one of the producers responsible for the new arrangement, the song is currently experiencing a “copyright-related issue.” “Yummy Yummy Love,” the group’s collaboration with Dominican soloist NATTI NATASHA, was MOMOLAND’s final song before their hiatus. It was released as their first English single on January 14, 2022. I’m curious to know how TAEB and clut reinterpreted the original dance-pop song.
Though FESTIVALAND does not feature entirely new songs, the fact that MOMOLAND returned adds to the many examples of formerly disbanded girl groups making comebacks. MOMOLAND held a pop-up cafe event in Seoul to commemorate this celebration. Welcome back, MOMOLAND.
