After releasing his first mini-album last year, CHANYEOL is back with an alternative EP, Upside Down - The 2nd Mini Album. Jam-packed with six songs, each track is as diverse as the next. It’s a fascinating EP, and you can hear how talented he is just by how easily he performs across different genres.
Upside Down - The 2nd Mini Album Tracklist:
“Upside Down” (Title track)
“Back & Forth”
“Ocean Drive”
“High & Dry”
“Happy Accident (feat. SOLE)”
“123 Dance”
With a heavy rock/punk-pop influence, “Upside Down” is an upbeat track that will make you jump up on your feet and move your head along to the beat. This track is electric and every instrument plays a crucial role in the song's sound. You can clearly hear the electric guitar, drums, and synth synergize. CHANYEOL's voice is raspy and his deep baritone voice perfectly matches the punk concept. Something that stood out to many while listening to this song is the mixture of metal, rock, punk-pop, and screamo. During the pre-chorus, you can hear CHANYEOL building up his voice to scream, but he goes straight to the chorus. CHANYEOL has a powerful voice. From his own solo tracks and hearing him in EXO tracks, you can tell that CHANYEOL's voice can do any genre, and in this song, he definitely proved it.
The music video is very artistic. In the video, you can see that his character is struggling mentally; however, there are moments in the video that show him happy and full of energy. There are also shocking and captivating moments, such as the changes from showing CHANYEOL in the real world, to a bright and colorful animation sequence. It’s a beautiful video that fits the concept that it’s going for.
