Photo: SM Entertainment
Have you ever heard a song and thought, “I need to add this to my playlist.” I have curated multiple playlists for any mood I might be in, and it is always fun to go back, press shuffle, and enjoy the perfect playlist. So today, I am going to press shuffle on my K-Pop playlist. This playlist has no theme or anything specific—just K-Pop songs that I love so much. So, let’s take it back and see which songs play.
SHINee - “Good Evening”
On May 28, 2018, SM Entertainment's iconic boy group SHINee released their breathtaking sixth album, ‘The Story of Light’ EP. 1. It’s a beautiful album with six songs that truly showed the power of the SHINee members. The title track for this album is their gorgeous song “Good Evening.” It’s a track that showcases the members' vocal skills, featuring skillful falsettos, striking raps, and captivating harmonies. I still remember the first day I heard this song. It was when SHINee was promoting the track, and they had done a challenge on Weekly Idol. Watching them perform the song at the various speeds at which it was played truly showed how talented the members are. The stunning choreography was like watching art unfold right before your eyes. It’s such a beautiful song that will always be a favorite of mine and many fans.
Red Velvet - IRENE & SEULGI - “Monster”
On July 6, 2020, Red Velvet's beloved sub-unit, Red Velvet - IRENE & SEULGI, debuted with their striking, eye-catching EP, Monster - The 1st Mini Album. A mini-album with five songs, each one thrives on the eerie sound and concept Red Velvet is known for. With a sultry undertone, this EP is captivating and will draw you in from the moment it starts. The EP starts with their title track “Monster.” A fiery song that showcases both Irene and Seulgi’s strong vocals. The song blends hip-hop, R&B, and EDM, and the girls perform each perfectly. This sub-unit was highly anticipated, and when “Monster” was released, it was exactly what we expected for the girls. It is such an iconic debut that you can’t help but love it.
BTS - “HOME”
On April 12, 2019, Big Hit Entertainment/HYBE mega boy group BTS released their bright, colorful, and really good album, MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA. An iconic album with seven songs that resonate with you from beginning to end, each song is a banger. One song that was on repeat for me when it was released is their B-side “HOME,” an upbeat song with addictive lyrics, a danceable beat, and skillful vocals/rap. “Your love, your love, you love (I miss that). Your love, your love, your love (I want that). Your touch, your touch, your touch (I need that). La, la, la, la, la,l a, la, la, I love it.” The members sound amazing in the song. Those falsettos are smooth, and the raps are hard-hitting. It’s such a fun song that will have you up on your feet, dancing along to the song, and screaming the lyrics at the top of your lungs.
