Chungha Drops New Single “Save me”

Queen Chungha has made her return, and we’ve been patiently waiting for her. It’s been about a year since she’s released music, excluding a Christmas digital single, so it is still kind of sad that the return is only another digital single without an accompanying music video.
The new single “Save me” is an EDM influenced track, which seems to be Chungha’s developed wheelhouse in terms of sound. The all-English track credits her as the writer and lyricist, which makes the sweet lyrics more impactful. There’s no dispute that Chungha has a beautiful voice, which adds to the warmth and sincerity in the song. There’s an emotional and authentic feeling to the track that echoes the struggles of life. The EDM melody would be something I would describe as nostalgic, reminding me a lot of the popular EDM tracks in the early to mid-2010’s. “Save me” does have a very genuine tone, which makes the track more touching as well.
The single is accompanied by a visualizer rather than a full music video, which I do have to say is a bit of a disappointment. The visualizer is fully AI, and if you look into the YouTube comments, there’s a pretty unanimous consensus that it’s an unfortunate choice, with a number stating they would have preferred even just a video showcasing her recording the song. I have to say that I do agree, this day in age it’s impossible to dodge AI slop and it’s a total shame. While I wouldn’t call the video something as derogatory as AI slop, it is pretty underwhelming compared to the potential we are used to seeing. I will say that I do enjoy the blue rose visuals that were also used in the promotional materials, so I wouldn’t write it off as a total loss visually.
