Hearts2Hearts Shows an Unbothered Confidence in “RUDE!”

It’s safe to say that Hearts2Hearts feels at home in the house genre. Their new single “RUDE!” is another infectiously catchy house tune in their growing discography. The song dropped on February 20, hot on the heels of Hearts2Hearts’s first anniversary and first fanmeeting, with a boastful, confident energy. Though the song conforms to the group’s norms on a musical standpoint, its message challenges society’s pressures to fit in.

Where a collectivist society can interpret rebellious, individualistic behavior as rude, Hearts2Hearts takes that adjective as a compliment. “I shine the brightest when I’m myself, I’ve been actin’ too rude,” they sing. According to Jiwoo in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the song serves as a “playful warning” to those who pressure others to conform to a fixed image.

Hearts2Hearts reinterprets this message through a music video focusing on social media, a place that often celebrates conformity and individuality simultaneously. The eight members originally make it their job to collect “likes” on social media. However, this takes a turn as they later curate feeds embracing self-love instead.

On February 21, Hearts2Hearts held their first performance of “RUDE!” at their HEARTS 2 HOUSE fanmeeting in Seoul. Fans in America and Indonesia can also look forward to the fanmeeting heading to their countries soon. Hearts2Hearts will perform in Brooklyn on March 19, Los Angeles on March 22, and Jakarta on March 28. If anything, Hearts2Hearts are “rude” to not share this song earlier.
