Big Ocean encounters their greatest battle yet in their latest EP. Chanyeon, PJ, and Jiseok suit up as warriors to tackle obstacles in THE GREATEST BATTLE, released on March 3. Taking inspiration from their lives and an important victory in South Korean history, THE GREATEST BATTLE sees Big Ocean moving forward with ambition. The dual title tracks, “One Man Army” and “Cold Moon,” show that the group will not back down from a challenge.

“One Man Army”

“One Man Army” embodies the feeling of emerging victorious from a tough battle. This theme reflects the lived experiences of Big Ocean’s members as deaf individuals, but also an acknowledgment that “everyone is fighting their own battles.” Just like how Big Ocean beat the odds to debut as K-Pop’s first group with deaf artists, people have the ability to achieve greatness through resilience. The message also comes from the 1597 Battle of Myeongyang, where South Korean admiral Yi Sunsin used just 12 ships to defeat 333 opposing ships during the Japanese invasion of South Korea.

With an epic instrumental combining classical strings and military drums, Big Ocean comes prepared with a strong presence. They also bring an army of their own through a team of backup dancers. “One Man Army” is a powerful song in all its elements: message, instrumental, and performance.

“Cold Moon”

In contrast to “One Man Army,” the second title track of THE GREATEST BATTLE takes a smaller, less serious approach. “Cold Moon” delivers a funky tune that turns the battlefield into the dance floor. Though “Cold Moon” does not have a music video yet, it is a short and sweet addition to Big Ocean’s list of dance-based tracks.
