March was another incredible month of comebacks and new releases this year, with one of the biggest returns the music industry has witnessed in recent years, exciting fans all over the world. With so many great new songs now in our playlists, here are some of my favorites from last month.
“Like Animals” - BTS
After a set of hip-hop heavy tracks in the first half of the album, ARIRANG takes a completely different turn in the second half, playing with different genres that collectively show BTS's strengths as a versatile group who can make any style and sound their own. With somber tones and a moody atmosphere, the alternative-rock song "Like Animals" instantly became my favorite track, with it excellently blending 90’s grunge and angst into something experimental and new, offering a sound not heard from BTS before. With lyrics exploring a sense of longing, desire, and freedom, the vocals deliver calmness with beautifully eerie adlibs that contribute towards “Like Animals” being a standout track that has been on repeat since release.
“Wednesday Girl” - P1Harmony
P1Harmony "shine like a diamond" in their latest mini-album UNIQUE with its fourth track, “Wednesday Girl.” “Wednesday Girl” carries a charm that feels perfect for a late summer evening, allowing listeners to wind down to the serene sounds of P1Harmony's music. The song allows each member's vocals to sparkle over its production, being a concoction of pop, rock, and tropical sounds with an R&B vocal tone layered over it, with “Wednesday Girl” becoming one of P1Harmony's best tracks.
“Broken Way” - SF9
SF9 bring their latest album, About Love, to an epic finale with the closing track, “Broken Way.” Performed by Yoo Taeyang, “Broken Way” delivers a dramatic rock-ballad sound that feels like a closing OST to a high budget K-Drama or film. Yoo Taeyang's deep, rich vocals add to its intensity, becoming the latest compelling song in SF9's discography, that has become one of my favorites.
