Seize the Day with Colde’s ICY BABY

K-R&B king Colde is back with the newest addition to his eclectic discography, ICY BABY, an eight-track-long production wonderland that celebrates youth. Spearheaded by three title tracks and featuring talent from Punchnello, Khakii, DIMO REX, JJANGYOU, and Choi Wonbin, the EP proves that even for an artist as seasoned as he is, Colde has plenty left in store.
The album starts off with the appropriately titled “ICY,” a chill R&B track set over a hip-hop beat and piano that listeners of Colde will find familiar. “DRIPPY” follows a similar scheme with more of a bite in rapper Punchnello’s featured verse. The first title track of the album, “PULL UP,” wraps up the chilled portion of ICY BABY, lulling listeners into a false sense of auditory security with its laid-back beats and Colde’s signature crooning.
“GIRLS♡” switches things up entirely, heating up the tracklist with a relaxed, flirty guitar hook and a catchy all-English chorus that’s sure to be a hit with international audiences (especially live). “DOLLAR BILLS (feat. Khakii)” is about as ‘90s east coast hip-hop as it gets with its heavy bass and boom-bap beats, and is comparatively simplistic in its production which makes the electric second title track “LIFE IS A MOVIE (feat. DIMO REX)” feel all the more dynamic. It’s a song brimming with the naive invincibility of youth that listeners will want to have on repeat all night.
“BIG TALK (feat. JJANGYOU, Choi Wonbin)” is unlike anything Colde has released before, laced with gritty guitars and biting vocals. If “DOLLAR BILLS” is ‘90s east coast hip-hop, then “BIG TALK” sounds like something that could have come from the Beastie Boys’ discography. And, as out of left field as this influence is, it somehow feels like a no-brainer that Colde would experiment with such a distinct sound—and one that makes perfect sense for the theme of youth found in ICY BABY.
The album’s closer is the explosive third title track “SHUT DA FXXKA AND GO” that picks up where “BIG TALK” leaves off, mixing rock guitars and frenzied energy as Colde challenges his listeners to throw caution to the wind and face their challenges head on. Much like “GIRLS♡,” this high-energy ode to youth is destined to be a beloved staple in Colde’s new live performances.
Colde is set to host a live release party ICE BREAK CLUB on August 15 where fans will be able to get the first taste of the most frenetic chapter of his career yet.
