B-Side Fall Vibes Part 3

It’s finally October, which means our favorite season is finally upon us! We’ve always associated a certain mood with fall—an appreciation for its beauty and the melancholy we associate with the changing colors of the leaves as nature prepares for winter. Fall is the time for cozy sweaters, warm drinks, and chilly weather, with the days growing shorter and the weather coaxing us back into hibernation. For this series, we’re presenting some of our favorite tracks to complement the changing season.

“Wonderland” - Dreamcatcher

Dreamcatcher’s latest album Alone in the City was full of wonderful surprises, and “Wonderland” may have been the best. The track is more R&B focused and has a slower beat than what the group traditionally performs, proving the talent the group has beyond their signature dark rock concepts.

“Serendipity (Full Length) - BTS

Admittedly, we’re still suffering from post-concert depression from BTS’s USA leg of their tour. Jimin’s solo track “Serendipity” is guaranteed to leave an impression on you for its overall beauty, but something about it feels so perfect for the cooling temperature and early sunsets. The beat is soft and even a little sexy, but still full of warmth that covers the chill in the air.

“Amor Fati” - Epik High

Things almost always get a little deeper when Epik High is involved, but “Amor Fati” is arguably one of their most intense songs yet. The melancholy atmosphere that surrounds the beat and the lyrics leaves a lasting impact, even after dozens of listens. Kim Jongwan of Nell adds a level of vocal prowess to the rap group that completes the overall atmosphere of the song. Even if it sometimes appears horribly sad, there’s something incredibly beautiful in this old school hip-hop track that is so perfectly Epik High.

“Paradise Lost” - Gain

Gain’s famously sexy solo track “Paradise Lost” has an incredibly haunting aura that doesn’t compare to any other track. The melody, made up of intense organ chords, is complemented by Gain’s strong vocals, punctuated by her ability to express a deeper tone. The haunting vibe is an interesting contrast to the sexy concept itself, but that just makes it even more intriguing.

“Back” - INFINITE

INFINITE doesn’t often tackle darker or more melancholy concepts, but even so, “Back” is an absolute masterpiece in its own right. The song begins with soft, yet fierce, vocals that hint at an emotional and sad concept, only to have the beat drop out of nowhere and totally up the energy and intensity. The song is powerful in that even amidst these musical changes, it still maintains a beautifully haunting sound that highlights the vocal prowess of the group.
