“Abracadabra”

This is not the first time that “Abracadabra” has appeared on Throwback Thursday, but we couldn’t just leave one of their most popular songs off the list. “Abracadabra” established that the girl group can master and execute a mature and sexy concept. Brown Eyed Girls is one of the few groups to tackle the topic of sexuality and is unapologetic for showcasing mature themes. As they are a much older group in terms of age and experience, it comes as no surprise that they too would grow into a more fitting concept. For those who have been following the group for quite some time, you know that the hip dance is one of the aspects of the song, music video, and choreography that makes “Abracadabra” so popular. Once it comes on, you just have to stop everything that you’re doing and dance along to it.

“Sixth Sense”

Once again, Brown Eyed Girls brings another dark and sexy concept with their song and music video for “Sixth Sense.” The ladies are featured as strong and independent women as they refuse to follow a life and a leader they do not like. It’s all about rebellion and resistance as the overall themes of “Sixth Sense.” No longer do they wish to be bound and oppressed, and they successfully manage to gain support in rebelling against what is assumed to be a dictatorship. Aside from the music video, “Sixth Sense” is a song that will get you pumped up and ready for the day. There is a powerful quality to the song that makes you feel like you can get through anything. Who else can also see this song being played at a fashion show?

“Kill Bill”

Just like the title suggests, in 2013, Brown Eyed Girls released “Kill Bill” that took direct inspiration from the cult classic film Kill Bill directed by Quentin Tarantino. As the Brown Eyed Girls have established that they are a more mature idol group, it comes as no surprise that “Kill Bill” would be another risque and bold music video. The ladies definitely turn up the heat and show off their girl power as they take on inspired personas of characters from the film. As the music video does take inspiration from the movie, it is not your typical music video in the sense that they chose to make it a short film/cinematic experience as you see all four women fight amongst each other. “Kill Bill” is another upbeat song that is fun to dance to with friends or at parties, should it ever come up. Or if you’re one to stay at home often, it makes for a great song to put on while getting chores done.

“Sign”

Ending off this week is their dramatic pop ballad, “Sign.” Like “Abracadabra,” this song is another iconic release from the Brown Eyed Girls. As the ladies are known for their vocal prowess, they certainly do not hold back with this emotional and dark ballad. There is a slight EDM influence to the song that gives it that captivating quality which will pull you in further. The plot of the music video is intense and pushes the envelope in creating such a dramatic story that most K-Pop videos do not today. This song and music video recently celebrated its 8th anniversary since its release, and it goes to show how long that this girl group has been around in the music scene.
