Are You Ready for NATURE’s Comeback?

With all of the self-love songs produced this year, such as MOMOLAND’s “I’m So Hot” or CLC’s “Me”, it comes as no surprise to see yet another song about looking, and feeling, absolutely fantastic! At least, that’s what someone might think at first glance. However, NATURE manages to spin this recent trend into a love song for their first mini-album, I’m So Pretty.

Their Story So Far

Despite having all the energy and excitement that you’d expect from a debut, NATURE actually debuted as an eight-member girl group last August with “Allegro Cantabile,” a bop that is a remastered version of the opening to Nodame Cantabile, a popular anime about music, phobias, and love that we’d definitely recommend checking out. Before their debut, however, member Yeolmae left the group, though she’s still seen in the group choreography within in the video. They performed their debut song on several music shows, including MCOUNTDOWN and Arirang TV, leading to their first award as “New Artist of the Year” at the Soribada Best K-Music Awards within the same month!

Two days before winning their award, NATURE embarked on a series of dance and vocal covers that they named the Pop Cover Project, where they released five consecutive covers to pop songs, two of which still feature Yeolmae. The first to come arrived on August 28 in the form of “Walk Like An Egyptian,” followed quickly by “My Sharona” (September 8), “Shut Up and Let Me Go” (September 13), and “Rhythm Nation” (September 17), with the project finally ending with “Kiss” on September 20. Since then, NATURE hasn’t been very active besides the introduction of new member Loha and the release of a music video for their B-side track “Dream About U”—which brings us nicely to the release of “I’m So Pretty”!

The video itself is filled with bright colors spread among outfits and set pieces alike, matching the bubbly tone of the song almost perfectly! Our favorite set is the one with the members sporting colorful nightgowns in a stylish room adorned with makeup tables, mostly because it’s not the kind of setting that you’d expect from a song like this, though it makes sense because they’re singing about being pretty. The smoky, tropical island is definitely an eye-catching addition to the set, seeing as it provides a change of scenery from the intense colors, not to mention the delicate white outfits are particularly flattering on each of the members. Lipstick chess looks pretty fun too, and the fox tails almost look real.

In terms of the song itself, it’s a pretty standard cute concept with bubbly notes to boot. The instrumental is reminiscent of a circus, though not in the manner of Red Velvet’s “Zimzalabim,” but rather in its use of the trumpet and the buildup in the pre-chorus, both of which definitely set things up to feel like the final act of a show! The trumpet is arguably our favorite part of the track, as it’s used in a variety of ways that somehow all fit so well. Check it out for yourself below!
