Kim Wooseok Gives Fans an Early Valentine's Day Treat with “Sugar”
Kim Wooseok is back cuter than ever with the newest release in his discography, fulfilling everyone’s desire for more of his velvet vocals with his mini-album 2ND DESIRE [ TASTY ].
The mini-album is packed with six new songs: “Tasty,” “Better,” “Holiday,” “이따 뭐해,” “Next,” and “Sugar,” all of which are certified bops.
The title track, “Sugar,” is an electronic dance pop track that has a lot of elements very reminiscent of older sounds from the early 2000s era of music, and Wooseok’s vocals are so smooth that listeners will definitely get lost in them right from the start. The falsetto note that he pulls off moments before the chorus are such a nice touch because the listener can’t see it coming; the chorus packs a punch of its own, blindsiding listeners given the simple and effortless tone of the verses right before. The post-chorus bit where he sings “Right, tasty, yum yum. Ready, tasty, yum yum” is very catchy and was so easy to pick up on and sing after just one listen— always a good indicator of a great song. One last aspect that was so nicely done and incorporated into the song was the slow breakdown in the bridge toward the end. The way the short synth part comes in halfway through and the way the harmonies are overlaid sounds so flawless that it was both impressive and surprising at the same time.
