Girl Swag Takes Over the K-Pop Scene with TRI.BE’s Debut
TRI.BE (previously also known as Lion Girls and Tri.Angle) is a seven-member girl group produced by the well recognized composer Shinsadong Tiger and Universal Music Group under TR Entertainment. They made a very powerful debut with their first single album TRI.BE Da Loca on February 17. TRI.BE is a charismatic girl group full of Gen Z energy, unique sound, and potential — we will definitely keep our eyes on them.
They are the first K-Pop group to debut under Universal Music Group Korea and EXID’s LE (who previously worked with Shinsadong Tiger on hit songs like EXID’s “Up & Down” and Trouble Maker’s “Trouble Maker”) is a joint producer of the album. This made TRI.BE’s appearance highly anticipated months before the debut. The relationship between LE and some of the TRI.BE members goes way back: Songsun sang several guide vocals for her and according to Soompi, Hyunbin started rapping at her suggestion. As expected from this background, the group’s concept is pretty fresh, which resulted in one of the most powerful girl group debuts we have seen in a while.
The meaning behind their name already gives off major Gen Z energy: TRI.BE is a derivation of two words, "triangle" and “be,” which together stands for “perfect existence.” The group consists of Songsun, Kelly (Taiwanese member), Jinha, Hyunbin, Jia (Chinese member), Seoun, and Mire (Japanese member). Kelly is a former contestant in the Chinese audition program Youth With You 2, which made the group’s debut news go viral on China’s TikTok. Songsun is a cousin of Girls' Generation Yuri.
In the mysterious and upbeat teasers, the girls showed some versatile talents and unique visuals, and as the '둠둠타(DOOM DOOM TA)' Prologue video promised, we get all the wild, girl-swag, self-confidence, young and free energy from their first single album that features two songs: “Loca” and “둠둠타 (DOOM DOOM TA).”
TITLE: “둠둠타 (DOOM DOOM TA)”
The title song “둠둠타 (DOOM DOOM TA)” is a unique mix of future house, afrobeat and moombahton sounds that definitely makes you want to move. The powerful beat and the lyrics cohesively show the confidence and young “girl-swag” of the members. The energetic bop is accompanied with a visually very colorful and fresh MV. The energetic dance moves, the vibrant editing, the wild animals, and the fashion and beauty choices will keep your eyes on the screen.
B-SIDE: “Loca”
TRI.BE’s second debut song also has a similar catchy beat to the title song with some hip-hop, Latin and trap sounds, showing off the distinctive vocals of each member. Both bops secure a unique place in the K-Pop scene with the concept of “Girl Swag” without showing any rookie vibes.
The group is also set to promote internationally with the help of Republic Records and the “둠둠타 (DOOM DOOM TA)” music video already has 2.5 million views on YouTube. So it looks like TRI.BE could actually become a new era representative soon as hinted in the prologue film.
We are excited to see what this group full of charisma and potential will bring to the table from now on. If you want to get to know the girls more, you can check out JTBC’s Let's try!
