Brave Girls “Rollin’” Gains Massive Popularity in 2021

Back on March 7, 2017, Brave Entertainment’s girl group Brave Girls released their fourth mini-album and lead track “Rollin’.” After four years, the song started to gain massive popularity and rank high on the charts. But before its unexpected success, Brave Girls were struggling with a number of difficult obstacles and decisions. 

After multiple lineup changes in the past, Brave Girls had become a five-member group with Yuna, Eunji, Yujeong, Minyoung, and Hayun by 2017. However, Hayun took a hiatus for health reasons in 2018. During the same year, Brave Girls released a rearranged version of “Rollin’” as a gift to fans that supported them during that time. By 2019, it was announced that Hayun departed from the group, leaving Brave Girls to promote as a four-member group. On August 14, 2020, the girls returned after a three-year hiatus with the track “We Ride,” continuing to promote as a four-member group. 

However, members Yuna and Yujeong were on the verge of departing from the group as well, and had left subtle hints of Brave Girls’ possible disbandment. 

On February 16, 2021, Yuna appeared on Instagram Live and responded to comments asking if Brave Girls were going to have a comeback this year. According to her Instagram Live, she told fans there were no plans for a comeback, and she had even considered finding a different career path, stating that she was considering returning back to school to find a new job since it was difficult. 

Member Yujeong appeared in a video on the YouTube channel Recent Olympics, where she revealed that the girls had mutually agreed to consider disbandment, just days before “Rollin’” would go viral. She also stated that because her group had few to no activities planned, the girls had moved out of their dormitory.

On February 23, 2021, things would soon change for the fate of Brave Girls. The YouTube channel VIDITOR released a video compilation of Brave Girls’ performances for “Rollin’” that featured YouTube comments from fans, with a majority of the comments coming from the Korean military. When the video had come out, Yujeong said that the members told each other, “Don’t expect too much from it.” Fortunately, the comedic comments and positive support for Brave Girls led the video to gain traction with currently over 12 million views. 

Thanks to VIDITOR’s video, “Rollin’” was back on the charts and according to iChart, achieved a perfect all-kill, which means that their track reached #1 in the Daily Top 100 and real-time charts for MelOn, FLO, Genie, Bugs, and VIBE. 

With the popularity of “Rollin’,” the four members created their own TikTok accounts and released a relay dance video where they showcased their choreography. It was then announced by Brave Entertainment that Brave Girls were preparing to appear on music shows to perform “Rollin’” in response to several requests from fans. 

With the opportunity to perform on-stage, Brave Girls finally received their first win for “Rollin’” on Inkigayo, thanking fans and the military for their support. Since then, Brave Girls have won first place on other shows like The Show, Show Champion, M!COUNTDOWN, Music Bank and Inkigayo again, giving them a total of six wins. 

With the endless support and love that Brave Girls has received, there is hope that these girls can finally achieve the success they have pursued for years. For now, let’s hope to hear more from Brave Girls in 2021 and continue to stream "Rollin.'"
