WayZeNi Definitely Won’t Keep Their Love on the “Low Low” for the WayV-TEN&YANGYANG Unit Debut

WayV-TEN&YANGYANG is the second unit of WayV, following WayV-KUN&XIAOJUN’s ballad duo. The fierce style, music, and performance of NCT’s Chinese group gained global attention since debut, and now these new sub-unit activities allow the members to highlight their different colors and charms.

Ten and Yangyang are two very hip members of the group, so I did expect something cool along the lines with that from them, and it’s not a surprise how well they match each other. Their unit debut song “Low Low” is a refreshing, youthful dance hip-hop track with a bright and cheerful beat. I really enjoyed how that modern but simple beat was accompanied by the sound of a pan flute at some parts. “Low Low” is a great summer bop that’s catchy enough to keep hitting that replay button; it’s an easy and lighthearted song that will be able to attract the mainstream audience.

This release came exactly a week after Ten’s latest SM STATION solo “Paint Me Naked,” and this new unit track gave him another chance to show himself to the world, as both members contributed their own ideas to the song and performance. I was also really happy to see Yangyang shining through “Low Low,” getting the chance to be the highlight and really show how much he has grown and become another all-rounder of the group.

The music video matches the beat’s brightness; it’s full of life as the two members are getting ready for a trip and just end up partying at the airport and on the plane. The lyrics, however, can feel a little contrasting at some points, as their loved one doesn’t want to own up to their own feelings, but overall it still manages to be hopeful and full of excitement about not hiding your love. The English lyrics were co-written by Ryan Jhun, who took part in composing and arranging “Low Low” as well and just recently dropped project collaboration “Maniac” with NCT U. He also worked on WayV tracks “After Midnight,” “Electric Hearts,” and “Kick Back.”

There is a lot more coming our way from NCT and WayV still in 2021, and we are very much looking forward to all of them!
