fromis_9 Invites You to be Their Midnight Guest

Making yet again another colorful splash with their newest release “DM,” fromis_9 has returned with their fourth mini-album Midnight Guest. The album marks the group’s first release under Pledis Entertainment.

fromis_9 has created their own little niche in the retro scene of K-Pop over the years, and “DM” sees them capitalize on this. Starting off with a soft intro that has a touch of city pop to it, the funky bass quickly kicks in as the girls sing of their plans to liven up the night. “DM” is definitely a dance track from its first note to its last, and the driving bass line and the girls’ energetic vocals ensure the party never stops.

The video for “DM” shows the girls of fromis_9 getting ready for a night out. With touches of neon and plenty of color to spare, the video ends with the girls having made their midnight escapes to come together in a final group dance. Though certainly not a performance video by any means, the choreography shots steal the show in this music video and make it clear that fromis_9 came to deliver with this comeback.

The album comprises four other songs, including two unit tracks. “Escape Room” opens up the album on a slinky note, setting the stage for fromis_9’s midnight rendezvous. Following “DM” is the first of the unit tracks, “Love is Around. The song features Saerom, Hayoung, Gyuri, and Chaeyoung and has a more ballad feel to it, focusing on the vocals of the four girls. On the flip side, “Hush Hush” is another upbeat dance track, this time sung by Jiwon, Jisun, Seoyeon, Nakyung, and Jiheon. Furthermore, both Seoyeon and Jiwon partook in writing and composing the song, adding an extra personal touch to the track.

After hinting at it in “DM,” things take a turn for true city pop with the album’s closer “0g,” ending the album on a dreamy note as the girls’ midnight adventure finally comes to an end.
