Catch a “Flash” of SHINHWA WDJ as Detectives in New Single

After four long years, SHINHWA has returned, but for now, with only three members. SHINHWA WDJ is the group’s first sub-unit, and you might recognize whose initials these belong to, but so you don’t have to guess, the group is comprised of MinwooDongwan, and Junjin. Their new single “Flash” is the title track and second song on their first release Come To Life, which has five new songs, both released on December 6, 2022. The track’s lyrics were written by Brian Kim, who has written multiple SHINHWA’s songs, Wutan, and SHINHWA’s own Minwoo. It was composed by Will Simms, Ryan Lawrie, and Kiris Houston, and also arranged by Will Simms.

Unless you understand Korean, you may have never guessed that “Flash” is a romantic song. The new single brings us a modern, easy-to-listen-to beat with a retro and thriller-themed music video that you’d only see in second generation K-Pop. Though, as fans are much used to seeing their favorite idols as criminals or heroes in this concept, we finally see SHINHWA WDJ solving the crimes as they age, but they may still be corrupt when they catch a “Flash” of a beautiful, dangerous woman who’s on the run.

The music video starts with a crime scene, several objects numbered and photographed as the detectives overlook details of the investigation. You know it’s serious business when there are multiple prints pinned to the wall, but the members still have time to dance between reading documents and testing firearms. Could they be pursuing love over their career as they protect a potential killer?

However, SHINHWA WDJ successfully completes their mission and congratulates each other, but who’s that calling? “SHCJ”... Could it be SHINHWA’s official fandom SHINHWA Changjo, reminding us of their upcoming concert Come To Life, or could it just be a myth?
