Incoming Rookies CLASS:y Dominate in Debut Single “SHUT DOWN”

On May 5, 2022, the dynamic septet CLASS:y, formed from MBC’s idol audition program My Teenage Girls, dropped their debut single and music video, “SHUT DOWN.” With a multitude of new up-and-coming groups debuting in K-Pop this year, CLASS:y has the potential to be the next big thing for girl groups.

CLASS:y consists of seven vivacious members: Won Jimin, Kim Seonyou, Myung Hyeongseo, Hong Hyeju, Kim Riwon, Park Boeun, and Yoon Chaewon. The survival program these ladies competed in kept a school theme, considering the range of competitors and the finalists are pretty young (but their talents are jaw-dropping for their age!). With the ages ranging from 14 to 20, it’s so impressive to see such talents from the younger generation. The eldest of the group, Hyeongseo, originally debuted in Busters back in 2017, making it her second debut!

Despite the concerns and questions regarding their age average, CLASS:y will blow people away. I for one was amazed by their onstage chemistry, live vocals, and choreography in their debut performance. But don’t just take my word for it, check it out below!

"SHUT DOWN"

With over 1.5 million views in the span of 10 days since it dropped on YouTube, CLASS:y’s debut music video has captured the attention of new fans. During their debut showcase, Jimin stated that “SHUT DOWN” is, “a mix of K-Pop and Bollywood style music,” making it into K-Wood. The single has a rich electronic dance-pop sound that makes CLASS:y’s video a hot debut. The music video places the girls in a school set, where zombies are trying to capture them; but, for the lively girls of CLASS:y, they are able to escape successfully without fear. In addition to their single, they dropped a debut mini-album titled Class Is Over with four new tracks! Let’s show CLASS:y some support as they embark on their journey as a rookie girl group in 2022.

You can follow CLASS:y on Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok for more updates about the girls! Be sure to stream “SHUT DOWN” on all streaming platforms, and check out the music video for “SHUT DOWN” below!
