Yugyeom Brightens our Heavy Hearts with “1 MINUTE”

It’s been ten years now since Yugyeom made his artist debut with GOT7, and it feels like we’ve watched him grow up. When GOT7’s contracts expired, there was a lot of concern and uncertainty around what would happen to each member and where they would go, even as they promised fans to still release music as a group. With a vast age range, it was no secret there would probably be a big gap in music releases as a group, but Ahgases have still kept a close eye on each member.

Since he was so young upon debuting, it was hard to know what direction Yugyeom would choose for himself as a solo artist initially, but it was clear his talent was sparking the interest of many agencies. Many people were ecstatic to hear he chose to sign with AOMG, which guaranteed that we’d get a new side to GOT7’s maknae. It’s been a couple years since then, and Yugyeom has settled nicely into his new style, which suits him quite well, at least in our opinion.

Yugyeom seems to be enjoying more creative freedom in his time with AOMG, which has shown through in his more R&B focused influences. His latest full album TRUST ME is preceded by the pre-release title “LA SOL MI,” which dropped at the end of January. For the title promotion, he chose “1 MINUTE,” which continues with the lighter sound from the pre-release. While “LA SOL MI” had a bossa nova sound as the main melody, “1 MINUTE” is a more straightforward pop R&B sound. It’s cute, which is a nice change of pace from a lot of the sexier concepts he had released previously.

“1 MINUTE” is a short, three minutes flat title track that keeps an upbeat and light feel through the track. The music video matches the feeling, with lots of pinks and yellows used as the main color palette. Yugyeom portrays a lighthearted mood that is infectious, and overall it’s a very feel-good title track.

TRUST ME is a full album that contains a number of previous releases, as well as a huge stack of amazing feature artists. This is no surprise, given the huge listening party he threw for his release (how many huge media names can you fit into one room??). Powerhouse features include LEE HI, punchnello, and SUMIN–you know we love a good SUMIN feature. With 14 tracks, TRUST ME is sure to have a great track to satisfy everyone. We love to see Yugyeom thriving in his solo career.
