With NMIXX confirmed as the first-ever K-Pop artist to perform at next year’s Viña del Mar International Song Festival, the largest and oldest music festival in Latin America, the announcement marks an accomplishment in K-Pop’s market diversification. Before JYP Entertainment founded its Latin America-specific subsidiary in 2024, the company made their intentions clear by giving their artists ways to connect with Latin American audiences. NMIXX has been preparing to build their Latin American fanbase even before they debuted, and now their efforts are producing incredible results.

Latin American Influence in NMIXX’s Music

NMIXX’s discography has drawn from Latin music and culture from the very beginning. NMIXX started learning Spanish since pre-debut, and their debut song “O.O” contains baile funk, a type of EDM originating from Black communities in Brazil, among its many genres. They eventually created a Spanish version for their song “Soñar (Breaker)” in 2024, further expanding their connection to fans in Latin America.

2024 also saw NMIXX attend events intended for that market. During their appearance as the first K-Pop group to attend Billboard’s Latin Music Week, they also expressed wanting to perform at Chile’s Viña del Mar International Song Festival, the region’s largest and oldest festival. Though not with a full performance, they eventually made a guest appearance at Viña del Mar International Song Festival 2025, held around the time NMIXX toured Mexico City, Santiago, and São Paulo for their global fan concert, NMIXX CHANGE UP : MIXX LAB.

“MEXE” with Pabllo Vittar

NMIXX’s eagerness to collaborate with a Latin American artist came true on August 21. They partnered with Brazilian singer and drag queen Pabllo Vittar for the single “MEXE.” Not only popular in her native country, Vittar’s presence reaches global audiences. She is also no stranger to international collaborations with a breadth of genres, having worked with artists like Charli xcx. “I love to work with different types of music and mix everything up to end up with something new,” Vittar told GRAMMY.com in 2020.

“MEXE” blends baile funk with K-Pop to showcase both artists’ origins perfectly. “MEXE,” which can mean “mix” or “move,” contains lyrics in Portuguese and English. Like the title implies, this collaboration will get everyone on their feet. There may be hope for Vittar and NMIXX to finally perform this song live at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival 2026, which runs from February 22 to February 27. This year, Disney+ handled the event’s livestream in Latin America, and Billboard provided streaming options for watchers in other regions.
