On November 24, tripleS introduced four new sub-units that represent the forces of the universe. tripleS msnz’s first EP, msnz <Beyond Beauty>, includes songs from the newly formed moon, sun, neptune, and zenith sub-units. The name derives from the Korean term for “pretty girl,” 미소녀 (misonyo), and each sub-unit features six members. With all 24 members under new group configurations,  msnz <Beyond Beauty> allows the tripleS to cover more concepts and genres.

TRACKLIST:

  1. “Magic Shine New Zone”

  2. “Fly Up”

  3. “Cameo Love”

  4. “Bubble Gum Girl”

  5. “Q&A”

  6. “Christmas Alone”

tripleS neptune: “Fly Up”

Consisting of Seoyeon, Nakyoung, Dahyun, Kotone, Nien, and Seoah, the neptune sub-unit delivers a groovy nu-disco track. “Fly Up” asserts achieving any dreams regardless of what happens. It sports an athletic concept that highlights the members’ power and flexibility. Fans could adopt some workout material from the exercises tripleS executes in the music video, such as back leg lifts and box jumps. “Fly Up” reflects many classic tripleS elements, including a signature “la-la-la” moment infused in its chorus and the dance genre that they love to use.

tripleS moon: “Cameo Love”

Consisting of Kaede, Sohyun, Lynn, Shion, Sullin, and Jiyeon, the moon sub-unit presents a school concept with a tone of sorrow. “Cameo Love,” a relaxed drum and bass-inspired song, touches on how someone can feel that their presence always goes unnoticed by a crush. They feel insignificant, stuck as a background character in this one-sided love story. The dark, hazy shots in the music video replicate this message well. While most music videos insist on clear views of the idols, many scenes in “Cameo Love” obscure the tripleS members.

tripleS sun: “Bubble Gum Girl”

Hyerin, Chaeyeon, Yooyeon, Xinyu, Mayu, and Chaewon include bubblegum pop in this EP through “Bubble Gum Girl.” Through the sun sub-unit, this song absolutely feels like a warm ray of sunshine with its overflowing excitement. Its lyrics describe romantic feelings that come close to bursting like bubblegum. The “Bubble Gum Girl” music video has the most creativity out of the five videos released for this promotion; using a social media concept, the video centers itself through computer applications, internet streams, and mobile apps for engaging transitions and member interactions.

tripleS zenith: “Q&A”

In contrast with “Cameo Love,” Jiwoo, Soomin, Yubin, Yeonji, Joobin, and Hayeon actively anticipate the progression of a high school romance. The question referenced in “Q&A” comes as a declaration of love that tripleS can’t wait to hear. Whereas tripleS moon looks isolated from their peers in their track’s video, tripleS zenith interact with crowds of other students as they prepare for their big moment.

“Christmas Alone”

All members participated in the final track of msnz <Beyond Beauty>, “Christmas Alone.” This Christmas carol encourages finding fulfillment in spending the holidays by oneself. Despite the usual insistence that Christmas feels special with a lover, “Christmas Alone” wants listeners to find comfort in their alone time. The electropop and Jersey club beat makes the song untraditional from most holiday songs, but it still contains some elements of tambourine and Christmas bells. After promoting “Christmas Alone” with all members, the individual units will “appear on weekly music shows in turn.”
