Weeekly’s Last Activities Under IST Entertainment

The future of Weeekly looks uncertain with the termination of their contracts  under IST Entertainment last week. The six-member girl group, who debuted in 2020, is parting ways with the company. This week’s Ladies Corner looks into Weeekly’s activities between their latest EP, Bliss, and their departure.

Songs for Elsword

Weeekly provided the voices for fictional girl group MEGA CAKE in the second idol-themed event for the online game Elsword. GWSN contributed the original voices of MEGA CAKE during the first event’s run in 2019. During its EL★STAR 2: ELIOS IDOL COMEBACK PROJECT in October, Weeekly sang the songs “Heart to Heart (H2H)” and “Dessert on you,” bringing their energy to these two bubbly songs.

Not to be confused with rookie girl group Hearts2Hearts, who also uses the abbreviation “H2H,” the hyperpop song “Heart to Heart (H2H)” expresses a romantic confession. The pop and rock song “Dessert on you” dedicates support towards someone sweet. VERIVERY, OnlyOneOf, and ICHILLIN’ also participated in this idol event as voices for other fictional groups.

Monday’s Solo Song: “New Things”

On October 21, 2024, Weeekly’s main vocalist tried some new things by releasing her first solo song. In this rock song, Monday sings about breaking out of a boring, ordinary way of life. She wants to shine and try activities outside of the box.

Monday paints herself as a bright light in a world of draining, repetitive cycles. “A deep shadow can’t hide me / ‘Cause I’m the only one who’s luminous / I need some new things,” she sings in the chorus. Regardless if Monday intends to pursue solo music further, she will have chances to try out more careers in the future.

Zoa’s Variety Show: Even Better Zoa

Weeekly’s maknae, Zoa, started her own YouTube variety series last year. Even Better Zoa (오히려 조아) sees her time traveling to past decades and trying related activities tied to those time periods. Zoa experiences the past by doing activities like shopping for a 1980s-inspired look, preventing Y2K by using technology of the 1990s, and living as an ulzzang (pretty girl) in the 2000s.

Other Weeekly members appeared on the show as special guests. The series ended off with a party, where the members reflected on the show and drafted ideas for a potential new season. Even Better Zoa ended in November, lasting 12 episodes.

WU (Weeekly University) Global Activities

In late 2023, Weeekly held their first fanmeeting in Seoul, which would evolve into their first tour. The WU (Weeekly University) fanmeeting saw the preview of their fan song “Stranger,” which simultaneously released with an additional English version in January 2024. Around this time, Weeekly launched a global YouTube channel in preparation for promotions in the Americas.

The global push would come to fruition after the release of Weeekly’s latest EP, Bliss. In September, the group expanded WU (Weeekly University) into their 2024 Weeekly Grand America Tour and traveled to Mexico, Colombia, the United States, and Canada on this nine-stop tour. WU (Weeekly University) reached its final iteration in October as WUF (Weeekly University Festival) in Japan.

Weeekly will continue pushing towards individual activities. Music intellectual property (IP) investment company Beyond Music gained 100 percent of IST Entertainment’s shares in February, but Weeekly did not transfer to their management. Like the message of  “Stranger” says, fans will support Weeekly through this next step.
