To festival-goers, Gov Ball is nothing new. You could consider it New York's version of Coachella or Lollapalooza, a staple of the summer festival circuit. What was new this year was seeing three of Asia's biggest acts take some of the festival's biggest stages.

This time around, KATSEYE, Stray Kids, and JENNIE arrived in New York to prove exactly why they've been dominating charts, selling out arenas, and building massive global fanbases. While Korean acts have appeared at Gov Ball before, including P1Harmony, who performed in 2024, Stray Kids made history as the first Korean group to headline the festival.

Taking place in Flushing Meadows, Queens, Gov Ball welcomed fans from across the country and, in many cases, around the world. The K-Pop presence was impossible to miss. Fans arrived dressed in outfits inspired by iconic music video looks, while others handed out freebies and photo cards, bringing one of K-Pop's most beloved concert traditions to the festival grounds.

Day 1

Day one started bright and early, with the 7 train packed with fans eagerly buzzing about the weekend ahead. One of the day's most anticipated acts was KATSEYE, who took over the Verizon Main Stage and quickly proved why they have become one of the fastest-rising groups in pop music.

Opening with their latest track, "PINKY UP,” the group immediately drew a massive crowd before moving through fan favorites like "Gameboy" and "Internet Girl." While many festival-goers may know KATSEYE from their viral success online, their Governors Ball set showcased far more than just streaming hits. Their sharp choreography, live vocals, and undeniable chemistry as a group were on full display throughout the performance. The members slowed things down with tracks like "Tonight I Might" and "My Way," giving the audience a chance to appreciate their versatility before closing with the explosive "Gnarly." For their first Governors Ball appearance, KATSEYE delivered a performance worthy of the main stage, and if their momentum continues, seeing them return as future headliners wouldn't be surprising.

Day 2

Day two delivered one of the most memorable moments of the weekend. From the moment gates opened, there was constant chatter about an approaching storm, but fans remained focused on one thing: Stray Kids.

Many attendees had spent the entire weekend counting down to the group's headline set, and when Stray Kids finally took the stage, they wasted no time reminding everyone why they earned that spot. Launching into "TOPLINE," "S-Class," and "Bounce Back,” the group commanded the stage.

The set balanced newer tracks with fan-favorite classics, including "Side Effects," "MANIAC," and recent releases like "CEREMONY." Their closing performance of "MIROH" felt particularly special. As someone who has followed the group since their survival show days, watching them perform one of the songs that helped define their early career in front of such a massive crowd was a full-circle moment. Before long, the storm everyone had been talking about finally arrived, but not before fans witnessed a historic performance from the first Korean act to ever headline Governors Ball.

Day 3

Day three looked a little different after the previous evening's weather disruptions forced adjustments throughout the festival schedule, but one thing remained clear: fans were still showing up in full force. Sunday's lineup featured JENNIE of BLACKPINK, one of the festival's most anticipated performers.

Taking over the Snapchat Stage, JENNIE delivered an hour-long set centered around her solo project Ruby, performing fan favorites including "with the IE (way up)," "like JENNIE," "Mantra," and "Dracula," while also treating fans to several unreleased songs and new arrangements. From the moment she stepped on stage, the crowd was completely locked in, singing along to every word and matching her energy throughout the performance. Balancing confident choreography with effortless stage presence, JENNIE demonstrated exactly why she has become one of the most recognizable names in global pop music.

Until Next Year...

Governors Ball 2026 felt like a landmark weekend not only for the festival itself, but for K-Pop and Asian representation on major American festival stages. From KATSEYE's breakout performance, to Stray Kids making history as the first Korean act to headline the festival, to JENNIE delivering one of the weekend's most talked-about sets, the weekend showcased just how global music has become.

As fans, journalists, and music lovers, we're hopeful this is only the beginning and that even more K-Pop and Asian artists will take Governors Ball stages in the years to come. Most of all, we're grateful to have witnessed and covered a weekend that marked such an important milestone for the genre.

Until next time, Gov Ball.
