The news of a new SEVENTEEN sub-unit had every CARAT excited for what was to come. At this point, the group has debuted new official subunits like JxW (Jeonghan and Wonwoo), HxW (Hoshi and Woozi), BSS (Seungkwan, DK, and Hoshi), CxM (S.Coups and Mingyu), and DxS (DK and Seungkwan), who each have a distinctly different musical sound. Fans began speculating about who could be in the new sub-unit, and, in true SEVENTEEN fashion, they got hints about who might be in the upcoming unit. And it was a sub-unit fans didn’t know they needed until they arrived: THE 8 & VERNON is the new SEVENTEEN sub-unit. The excitement was felt throughout the fandom, and everyone wondered which genre this sub-unit would go for. With THE 8 in the performance unit and VERNON in the hip-hop unit, fans' minds were swirling. When the teasers were released, everyone was on the edge of their seats with anticipation. The running question was, “What is this going to sound like?” Their debut album, V8, has eight songs that all focus on that electropop sound. Both members have expressed their interest in this genre in the past, and this album is a testament to their love for the style.

Electropop runs throughout the entire album. The title track to V8 is their hyperpop track “singasong.” This track is an electrifying dance song, with heavy synth instrumentals. Listeners can really tell that THE 8 and VERNON took part in creating this album, and in this song specifically, they added their own special touches. Reflecting THE 8 and VERNON's influence, this track, along with many others, is sung in three languages. Listeners can also hear the individual styling of the members. VERNON’s alternative-pop sound is blended with the hyperpop they were going for, just as THE 8’s EDM/electropop is embedded in it, grounding the track in each member's individual artistry.
In the title track, listeners can hear the members singing in Korean, Mandarin, and English, making it a multilingual song for everyone to enjoy. “singasong” features a lot of repetition, whether in the lyrics or the background beat. For this genre of music, that is sometimes common. Similar repetition appears in tracks by Skrillex or Diplo, for example, and THE 8 and VERNON use it to their advantage to create a memorable track for a beat-heavy song. Listeners will find themselves singing this song all day, because the lyrics are so unforgettable. Producer and DJ Mechatok helped create the title track “singasong,” and throughout the song, you can hear the boys say “I feel like Mechatok” during the exciting chorus. THE 8 & VERNON have crafted an ideal track for raves and dance floors. “singasong” is exhilarating, lively, and mind-blowing, and is something new and fresh for all to fist pump to.
Just like the song, the music video for “singasong” is hype and full of energy. In the video, viewers see THE 8 and VERNON out in a dirt field, surrounded by other people. The video is quirky and intriguing; there are scenes of the boys dancing, fighting video game characters, and having fun. The music video also showcases the choreography for the track. The dynamic dance is high-energy; viewers can see the members and dancers performing choreography with such swift movements. The fast-paced footwork, also known as shuffling, is a very popular dance move in the rave culture and is prominent in the choreography for “singasong.” It matches the genre the members went for and makes this track such a fun dance.
THE 8 & VERNON’s debut is one of the books. The album is filled with fun songs that will have fans and listeners on their feet, so check out THE 8 & VERNON’s new release, V8.
