JYP Entertainment’s newest girl group OURBIRTHDAY officially steps onto the scene. Debuting under INNIT Entertainment, a subsidiary of JYP Entertainment, this seven-member girl group establishes their identity with a new genre called WHIP-HOP. Described as a combination of a whipped cream atmosphere and hip hop performances, the group incorporates their own individual styles to create their solid foundation. Released August 19, 2026, the EP, Our Birthday, features songs “Our Birthday,” “SQUEEZY,” and “HUNGRY (Side A)” and “HUNGRY (Side B).”
OURBIRTHDAY released performance videos leading up to their official debut. Their WHIP-UP Dance Performance video flaunts their self-proclaimed genre with strong choreography to Missy Elliot’s “Pass that Dutch.” Their moves are expressive and showcase their natural skills. In addition to the dance performance, the group dropped two sides of “HUNGRY,” an energetic, house-style tune layered with earworm catchphrases. The performances were split into two videos with “HUNGRY (Side A)” featuring Cho Hyejin, Baby, and Achiraya and “HUNGRY (Side B)” including Kuk Chorok, Shin Hyewon, U, and Kilala. OURBIRTHDAY shines with their smooth and fluid dance moves, further defining what their WHIP-HOP genre really is.
The title track “SQUEEZY” blends hip-hop and funk with a charming music video to accompany it. It is retro yet remarkably laid-back. It is certainly a more lighthearted introduction to OURBIRTHDAY’s overall concept. The video centers around an old-school cooking show where the group takes over with an appealing dance break and solid melodies. “Our Birthday” is more confident and bolder than the title with support from the prominent bassline and well-layered harmonies.
It is refreshing to see a JYP girl group fully embrace hip-hop as a core element to their concept while putting their own spin on it. OURBIRTHDAY has already established their own identity with WHIP-HOP and it will be intriguing to see where they take the genre next.
