Candy Shop References SISTAR19 in “TIP TOE”

Brave Entertainment’s rookie girl group, Candy Shop, has returned with a new treat. On March 18, Soram, Sui, Sarang, and Julia released their first single, “TIP TOE.” The song pays homage to SISTAR19 with its sampling of their debut song, “Ma Boy.” This digital single came nine months after Candy Shop’s second EP, Girls Don’t Cry. The group will continue to promote with four members as Yuina has remained on a health-related hiatus since May 2024.

  1. “TIP TOE”

  2. “TIP TOE (Inst.)”

Candy Shop sings about hesitantly approaching a crush in “TIP TOE.” They try to avoid drawing attention to themselves by tiptoeing towards that person. The school girl concept reinforces these shy feelings. The song’s city pop instrumental, composed by Brave Brothers, CHAKUN, 1LLEVEN, and LEVI, gives it a reflective nature. “I’m afraid you’ll hear my heartbeat, so I tip-toe,” Candy Shop sings in the chorus.*

Brave Brother also wrote and composed SISTAR19’s “Ma Boy,” which explains the musical throwback. Like “TIP TOE,” “Ma Boy” addresses the fear that comes with a romantic confession. The duo, Hyolyn and Bora, hope that the boy reciprocates their feelings rather than continue to “play games.” The sampling in “TIP TOE” matches thematically as both songs feel scared about potential rejection. Though SISTAR19 does not belong to the same label as Candy Shop, Brave Brothers’ history with the sub-unit and their group ties these songs together. This throwback reintroduces a 2011 hit to a new audience in 2025.
